Plans for Revision
I always seem to struggle a little bit with revisions. I'm never confident in implementing changes into my current work because I'm always unsure if the changes I make will be good. But I feel pretty good about revising my research this proposal this time around. I'm grateful for the feedback I got from Dr. B and the peer review workshop in class. Based on their comments, it seems that I have a good start and just need to expand my ideas. My goal is to take each section one at a time and try to write as much information that I think is important to have in the research proposal. I'll also work on implementing any suggestions that were suggested by Dr. B and the peer review.
One thing I recommend a lot in the writing center is expanding on ideas. I think first drafts exist to get the ideas out and make sure the formatting, organization, and flow are working together just fine, and THEN you can start expanding on those ideas and going a layer deeper. I have a love-hate relationship with the editing process because of this; I love going through and refining my work, but sometimes, it becomes very tedious and I want to rip my hair out because of the detail I have to pay attention to, but it can be fun nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI think the current plan of just getting as much on paper is a good idea. It's much easier to cut redundancies or unnecessary parts than it is to awkwardly cram in necessary ideas later. It often feels like you are destroying something important, but that's why its so important to "kill your darlings." Even if you like something, its better to cut it than let it hurt the whole project. Trust the process and take breaks when you feel you need to. So long as you aren't starting the night before its due, it'll all be fine. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Jaxon,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your revision insights! As you finalize your research proposal, am glad you're taking note of my feedback in your literature review to tighten it further. Am fairly certain that with more development, synthesis, edits, etc. this section will lay the scholarly foundations of your research topic that will lead seamlessly toward your research design/methods section. And I agree about your thoughts on expansion -- my advice would be to work in small sections until you complete this project.
Overall, I think your topic will make a valuable contribution to existing scholarship on PTW once the proposal has been solidified and conducted in capstone research. Keep it up!!
