Possible Research Topics

I'm really excited to take this class because I really enjoy learning about new things that I'm interested in. Technical writing is such a fascinating topic to me because of how broad and vast the topic is. This should be a great semester with lots of good research ahead.

I was looking over the list of possible research topics that Dr. Bacabac provided us and a few of them caught my eye. I will list them below:

  • Legal Considerations in Technical Writing
  • Cultural and Societal Impacts of Technology
  • Writing for International Audiences: Challenges and Strategies
These different topics interest me for different reasons. I'm interested in the legal considerations topic because my minor is in political science. I think it would be a good topic to combine the skills from both my major and my minor. I like the second topic about the impacts of technology because I'm really interested in AI and what the cultural and societal impacts will look like, especially in regard to technical writing. Lastly, I'm interested in the third topic which is writing for international audiences. I enjoy the idea of international discourse and how something like that can be improved upon.

Here's to a new semester full of research and learning.

  1. I think the legal considerations in technical writing would be super interesting! I worked in a litigation law firm over the summer, and I think that there could definitely be some issues in technical writing that could warrant a lawsuit or issue within the litigation field of law. I wonder if it could be something with how language is phrased that is misleading and could lead to an issue. It also made me think of contract law, though I don't know if contract writing/drafting falls under the umbrella of technical writing. Since you like political science, I think it'd be fun to talk about the phrasing of laws and different statutes and do a big analysis on that!
